winning isn't everything...

...it's nothing. excellence is an illusion and perfection is an imposibility. mistakes are inevitable. the competition will eventually beat you. performance is transient. there is always a bigger fish. there are always smaller fish. there is always somebody who plays the game better. there is always another game you don't even know how to play. there is always another form of competition. you can't be the winner. winning is an illusion. losing is an illusion. there are only achievements. goals that you set, pursue, and reach. if you are too focused on winning, you might find yourself pursuing goals that are important only because there is competition involved. if you try to be better than other people, fine. just don't be surprised when I'm not impressed when you answer the question "better than other people at what?"
